FBO Documentation

Faith-based organizations have been essential partners in the global effort to improve public health and mount an effective response to HIV/AIDS. From large missionary hospital systems to small community outreach programs, faith-inspired initiatives have delivered vital health services and support to millions worldwide. HIV prevention and education efforts or providing testing, treatment, home-based care, or counselling services, faith groups have been deeply involved. Their perseverance and compassion have undoubtedly saved countless lives.

However, the invaluable contributions of faith-based health providers are often underreported and underdocumented. While tireless in their commitment to service, faith communities are not always as diligent about record keeping, data collection, or contributing their experiences, best practices, and insights to scientific journals and other publications. As a result, evidence-based learnings from faith-driven health programs too often go unshared with the wider global health community.
The Interfaith Health Platform aims to elevate the voices and work of faith-based health organizations and encourage faith-inspired NGOs to monitor and evaluate their efforts using acceptable programmatic and scientific methods.

Improved knowledge sharing from faith-based implementers will enable the global health field and the organizations themselves to better understand what community-led, faith-centred approaches work well and how to improve those that are less effective.
